Akselrod, Head of a political department

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev, 04.1994
This work represents a composition with several figures. In the center one c an see a figure of the head of the political department dressed in a greatcoat, a service hat and a soldier's blouse. He is getting papers from out of his wide belt. Behind him there stands a peasant with a pitchfork looking over the head's showlder at the papers. To the left, against the background of a large haystack there is a group of people. One of them - a man in a kepi and in a greenish T-shirt is standing with his back turned towards the spectator and reading a letter or some other document brought by the head of the political department. Two other persons - a fairhaired peasant and a peasant woman in a red dress - are sitting on the ground. We see them also from their backs. The right part of the composition represents the scene of a dinner. A woman standing on a wooden dais distributes the food. She holds out a plate to another woman standing to the left on the ground. On the foreground, near the dais there two dining women sitting on the ground with the plates on their laps and a man in a yellow cap lying on his belly. On the background of the picture there are large haystacks nearly reaching the upper edge of the picture, and small figures of the peasants sitting nearby on the ground.
