Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah pointer, Israel/Eretz Israel, 19??
The flat Torah pointer consists of a bar, a pointer and a hanger.
The flat bar tapers towards the hanger and is divided into two parts; the narrow elongated upper part is decorated with pairs of horizontal grooves in a rhythm.
The elongated bottom is shaped like a leaf. One of its’ sides is striped and decorated with scrolls, while The other side bears a dedicatory inscription in square Hebrew letters read towards the upper part in three lines. It reads:
"נדבת ה"ג (הגברת) רחל חרוש: בתנאי/ לברך אותה לכל ימי חייה ואף אחרי/ מותה לאשכבה"
“A donation of the Ms. Rachel Harush: on condition that/ she will be blessed for the rest of her life and even after/ her death on her burial”
A pointer shaped as a clenched hand with an extended index finger and a cuff, terminates the bottom.
A loop is inserted through a hole at the top of the narrow upper part.
The index finger is usually attached to the opposite side. It seems that it was attached by mistake.
