At a table represented on a foreground sit Reb Yainkil and his pupil Lemech. Reb Yainkil, sitting to the left, is an old thin Jew with a long wrinkled face, a black beard and moustaches. He lifts his left hand while the right one lies on the book, read by Lemech. Lemech is a pale young man in a scullcap. He sits to the right of the teacher looking into the book and leaning on his right hand. An old house with a skewed roof is seen on the background. There is a lighted candlestick behind the Lemech's back standing on a table which is situated next to the roof.
