Jewish Architecture Wooden Beit Midrash in Joniškėlis, Lithuania

The beit midrash was most probably built in the late 19th century. It had a wooden carved Torah ark and brass chandeliers hung from the ceiling. Today (2008) it is converted into an apartment house. The building is a two-storey log structure of rectangular plan, built on a boulder foundation and spanned with a hipped rafter roof covered with tin. On the exterior, the building is protected with horizontal weather boards painted green. Its eastern façade facesVytauto Street; an annex has been added on its right-hand side.
Of the former beit midrash, only the exterior walls have survived.
