Description
The monument is located at the place of the entrance to the Rivne ghetto. It is a part of a brick wall, damaged on the left side. The wall has a rectangular opening which has a metal frame and a metal Menorah within it. To the left of the opening, a white plaque with Ukrainian, English and Hebrew inscriptions is attached. A metal suitcase stands in front of the wall.

Translation: At this place, there was the entrance to the ghetto, in which Jews of Rivne were forcibly kept during the occupation of the city by Nazi Germany. The ghetto in Rivne was established after mass killing in Sosonky Tract. There were 5,403 Jews in the ghetto. During its liquidation on July 13, 1942, the Nazis brought the ghetto inmates to Kostopil city and shot them there ["Video report of the preparation for the installation of the memorial sign," NGO "Center "Mnemonics"].
The monument was erected on the initiative of NGO "Center "Mnemonics." The initiative was supported by the representative of the Jewish community of Düsseldorf Matthias Richter, local authority representatives, representatives of the Jewish Cultural Society, and Jewish religious community of Rivne [NGO "Center "Mnemonics"].
The founding members of the NGO "Center "Mnemonics," Natalia Ivchyk, Petro Dolhanov, and Maksym Hon, designed the monument. Dolhanov suggested erecting a "damaged" wall made from the bricks of one of the Rivne ghetto houses. An idea to make a window with a Menorah in the wall belonged to Hon. Ivchyk proposed adding a suitcase, which often appeared in memories of the ghetto inmates [personal communication of Marina Sedova with Petro Dolhanov].
The unveiling ceremony took place on December 13, 2019. About 100 local residents took part in the ceremony and laid flowers to the monument [NGO "Center "Mnemonics"].
