The roof of the Hevra (Talmud Torah) Synagogue collapsed in 1999. Due to the decrease of the Jewish population and lack of resources the synagogue was abandoned to its fate. A grant obtained by the Jewish Community Foundation of Izmir from the Consulate of Germany in İzmir in 2020, allowed the removal of the rubble, strengthening of the walls, and the wall plasters as well as the construction of a temporary roof for the protection of the structure. Having provided the basic security, currently the conservation plans for this synagogue are being prepared with the support of an EU grant obtained by the Jewish Community Foundation of Izmir. The synagogue space is currently used for artistic activities such as concerts and contemporary art performances.
