History/Provenance

The synagogue was built in the mid-1870s by the architects Julius Deutsch and Slavko Lowy. It seems that the synagogue was modeled after Leopoldstädter Tempel in Vienna, Austria.

During World War II it was used as a prison and later as a warehouse and industrial site.

The organ from the synagogue is preserved in the Franciscan church in Koprivnica.
