Summary and Remarks
History

The Old Orthodox Synagogue was designed and built by János Balog, a local contractor in 1899. It is notable for its extensive stenciled Moorish-style wall decorations. During the Communist period, it was used as a library storage space. It was returned to the Jewish community of Kosice in 1995 and has slowly over the years been undergone repair and conservation. The decision was made to conserve its damaged appearance but to make the space suitable for cultural events.

While the synagogue is no longer used for religious purposes, it faces the courtyard of the small but still active Jewish community. The memorial plaque was placed on the wall of the synagogue facing the community courtyard in 2014
