Summary and Remarks
History

The Nazis murdered the Jews of Sofiivka on July 26 and September 21, 1942 [Tsal Kaplun Foundation].

According to Yad Vashem, the first monuments on the mass graves in Trokhimbrod were erected in the 1970s. One of them is located in the field, the second one is located in a forest

The date of the erection of the next two memorials varies. Tsal Kaplun Foundation states that a monument on the killing site was erected in 1990. According to Yad Vashem, two monuments were installed in 1991 and unveiled in 1992. The Holocaust Survivor, Avrom Bendavid-Val, wrote that the Natives of Trokhimbrod from Israel and the USA erected the monument on the site of the burnt synagogue in 1992. The second memorial, erected at the same time, is located on the killing site in the forest.

Around 2010, the Natives of Trokhimbrod and Lozisht attached new plaques with Hebrew inscriptions to the monuments of 1990s, because the local residents had stolen the initial metal plaques. The inscriptions were the same as on the previous plaques [Yad Vashem].

Jewish Holocaust Survivors and their descendants visited the former Trokhimbrod and the memorials several times. During one of them, in 2012, the visitors commemorated the Victims, installed a wooden monument on the site of the former synagogue, painted the inscription on the Soviet monument in the field, and collected the money for the investigation of the killing sites and work on including them in an official list of the monuments ["Photos from trip to Trochenbrod in 2012," "Dear friends, dear members of Trochenbrod 2012 group"].

In 2016, Holocaust Survivors and their descendants erected two more monuments in Trokhimbrod. One of them is located near the Soviet memorial in the field, another one was installed on the site of the former synagogue near the monuments of 1990s and 2012 [according to information on the monuments].

In November 2021, an initiative group with the participation of the Tsumanska Pushcha National Nature Park in Kivertsi and the Kivertsi Local History Museum carried out a scientific research in Trokhimbrod, they also collected some artifacts for the museum there [Kivertsivska hromada]. Later in the same month, local authority representatives commemorated the Victims of the Holocaust in Trokhimbrod [Volyn Online].

In 2023, the employees of the Tsumanska Pushcha National Nature Park in Kivertsi and the director of the Kivertsi Local History Museum visited the former Trokhimbrod and the killing sites within the photo project "Past at present. Trokhymbrid – horizons of memory" ["U ramkakh realizatsii fotoproiektu..."].
