Summary and Remarks
History

The Nazis detained approximately 13,000 Jews from Sarny and surrounding villages and about 200 or 300 Roma in the Sarny ghetto. On August 27–28, 1942, approximately 11,500 ghetto inmates were murdered in a forest near Sarny [Tsal Kaplun Foundation].

The Sarny City Executive Committee erected the memorial plaque on January 9, 2008 after the decision of the Sarny City Counsil No. 475 from June 25, 2007 and on the initiative of the Sarny History and Ethnography Museum. The commemoration ceremony takes place near the mass graves every year on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and on August, 27–28. [E-mail from the Sarny History and Ethnography Museum to Marina Sedova].

In August 2023, a meeting-requiem took place near the monument. Participants commemorated the day of mass murder in Sarny with a minute of silence. They also lit memorial candles and laid flowers to the memorial plaque [Informatsiine ahentstvo "Raion in ua"].
