Summary and Remarks
History

The Germans occupied Klimavichy (Klimovichi) on August 10, 1941. The Jews of the town and nearby localities were shot in a number of murder operations between November 1941 and the spring of 1943 [Yad Vashem: The Untold Stories]. In April 1943, the Germans imprisoned all the children from mixed families, some of them together with their non-Jewish parents. On April 12, the children were shot, together with Roman people, in Vydrinka, not far from the site where most of the non-Jews of Klimavichy (Klimovichi) were murdered.

After the war, the local authority established a monument in Vydrynka (Vydrinka) for all the Soviet citizens murdered in Klimavichy (Klimovichi) during the war. Today it is a place of public commemorative ceremonies.

In Klimavichy (Klimovichi) itself, there are two Holocaust monuments. The first monument was erected at the killing site of the local Jews in the 1950s; in 2018 it was replaced by a new one. The second monument, also dated back to 1950s, was situated in the Jewish cemetery; he was demolished as well and, instead, the new monument was established.
