Torah commentary with Chassidic and Kabbalistic insights. The work is written in two parts, the first being a treatise on the Torah, the second consisting of sermons.
The section on Parshat Beshalach includes a woodcut illustration of the Crossing of the Red Sea. The scene is rendered according to Midrash, with the Israelites’ pathways in a semi-circular fashion rather than straight lines.
R. David Shlomo Eibshitz (1755-1813) was a Russian-born rabbi and author. He served as rabbi of several communities, including Choroskkov, Bodzanov and Soroki before making aliyah in 1810. He settled in Safed, where he remained until his death. He was the author of many kabbalistic and Talmudic works.
