Description

This text was prepared by William Gross:

Kinטte Mkatilna Tahte Khedmete El-Almane [“Elegy for the Martyrs of the German Occupation.”], by Gaston Guez. Judeo-Arabic in Hebrew and Latin characters.Tunis, Uzan, 27th July: 1946. It is by Gaston Guez, the mohel and author of a book on circumcision, also in the Gross Family Collection.
Between November 1942 and May 7, 1943, Tunisia was occupied by Nazi Germany. Upon arrival, the Nazis established a local council, or Judenrat. There followed large roundups of Jews, individual deportations to European death camps, arbitrary local executions and large-scale plunder.
