Description

The following description was prepared by William Gross:

In Moslem countries up until modern times, the postion in life of a person was reflected in his costume. This is a head dress that identified Jewish women in Tunisia in their traditional dress. It is delicately embroidered using gold threads. Printed images and 19th century photographs of Jewish women of Tunisia show the rather dramatic headwear in ceremonial use.
