Moshe Zabari was the primary disciple of Ludwig Wolpert (see gross 012.001.004). Since Wolpert's death in the 70's, Zabari has been one of the leading proponents of the pure design and functionalism of contemporary Judaica as originated and developed by Ludwig Wolpert.  Zabari worked with Menachem Berman and Zelig Siegel in Israel prior to his immigrating to the United States to work with Wolpert.  His exploration of functionalism in both style and material has established him as the leading creator of Jewish ceremonial art in his generation.  Zabari is now residing in Israel. This spice box, with its elegant, pure geometrical shape, is considered one of the most resolved and classical of his creations. This was purchased from the artist in 1965, the year of its creation.
