Jewish Architecture Synagogue near bus station in Pishchanka, Ukraine
The synagogue is square in plan and story building, situated o the high basement and covered with gambrel roof. In the center of its northeast facade, a buttress-like bulge indicated the interior placement of the Torah ark. It is flanked by two pairs of segmented-arched windows decorated by plaster half-frames with key-stones (currently one window is converted into a door). Four similar windows and a door decorated in the same way pierce the southeast facade. The openings on the northwest facade are situated in the same scheme, although currently the whole length of the facade is hided by a new service attachment with lean-to roof. The north and east corners of the synagogue are decorated by corner pilasters.
The southwest wall is much thinner (0.2 m) than three other walls (0.7 m), thus indicating, that originally the building was much longer than now. This wall could be original wall dividing the women’s section or it has been built late, during the reconstruction of the building. Currently it is pierced by three simple rectangular windows.
Currently the interior of the building preserves only one original element – a Torah ark situated in a niche in the center of the northeast wall . The interior space is divided into five rooms. The window on the east of the ark is converted into a door, as well the westernmost window in the northwest wall. The original door on the northwest wall is reshaped into a window, but the original door on the southeast facade preceded by a stone porch is still intact.
