The zodiac signs are depicted within sunken panels situated on the pilasters above the architraves. The order of the signs starts with Aries, the sign of Nisan, depicted on the pilaster to the north of the Torah ark. The depictions continue on the eastern, northern, and southern walls, and ends with the sign of Aquarius on the pilaster to the south of the ark.
It seems that the zodiac signs were painted in the 1920s (before 1929) and not during the major renovation of 1902.
Several painting were damaged by bullets, probably during WWII.
