Memorial to Sarny Victims of the Holocaust in the Southern Tel Aviv (Holon) Cemetery, Israel

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Levin, Vladimir, 2024

Memorial Name:

No official name.

Who is Commemorated?
The Jews of Sarny, Poland (Sarny, Ukraine), and surrounding communities who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, among dozens of other Holocaust memorials erected by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. It consists of five flat abstract sculptural forms made of engraved metal. Between them lies a horizontal granite slab bearing the name of the community. The arrangement stands on a stepped base of dark and light stone. Three small, flat, horizontal slabs rest on the base. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community’s memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. The inscriptions indicate that the monument contains the ashes of the Jews who perished in the Holocaust and a scroll listing the names of the Jewish community’s victims.
