History/Provenance

As can be seen on the Ghetto Fighters' House Archive website, the original monument was surrounded by six short stone pillars connected by a metal chain. In addition, there was a small stone box placed beside the main monument, inscribed with the words

שמות הקדושים

Translation: Names of the Martyrs

which housed scrolls listing the names of the community's victims. On top of the stone chest stood a vessel-like structure containing a large candleholder.
