Memorials Memorial to Lenin Victims of the Holocaust in the Southern Tel Aviv (Holon) Cemetery, Israel
Memorial Name:
No official name.
Who is Commemorated?
The Jews of Lenin, Poland (Lenin, Belarus), and the surrounding communities who perished in the Holocaust, including partisans and victims whose burial places are unknown.
Description:
The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of several components: a tall, dark stone slab; to its right stands a small, light-colored stone slab bearing a metal relief of a menorah with olive branches and an engraved Star of David; to the left is another light-colored stone slab with a black plaque. A metal sculpture of a burning synagogue stands nearby, placed on a dark stone plaque indicating that ashes were brought from a mass grave in Lenin. Next to it stands a black metal menorah. All components rest on a base with a rounded front and a central black stripe. The monument is surrounded by a dark metal fence. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community’s memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. The inscriptions indicate that the monument contains the ashes of the Jews who perished in the Holocaust and a scroll listing the names of the Jewish community’s victims.
