Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Siedlce, Poland, and the surrounding communities who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:

The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of three rectangular stone blocks arranged in ascending order from right to left, with the smallest on the right and the largest on the left. A sculpted synagogue (in the image of the community's synagogue) is positioned atop the largest block. The middle block bears two black plaques. The monument bears Hebrew and Yiddish inscriptions honoring the community’s memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size.

Translation:

The Jewish community of Siedlce/and the surrounding area.

On the middle block, in Hebrew:


זכר לנצח עולמים

Translation:

Eternal remembrance.

On the side of the middle block, in Yiddish:


פאראייביקט דורך
שעדלעצער לאנסלייט
אין ישראל אוף אין גארער וועלט

Translation:

Perpetuated by the Jews of Siedlce/in Israel and worldwide.

On the black plaque, in Yiddish:


אנדענק די קדושים
גומגעבראכט דורך די נאצים - רוצחים
אין דער שואה-יארען 1939-1945

Translation:

In memory of the martyrs/murdered by the Nazi murderers/during the Holocaust years 1939–1945.

On the larger black plaque, in Hebrew:


הונצח ע"י שארית הפליטה
בני העיר שדלץ והסביבה
ישראל, ארה"ב, צרפת, ברזיל
קנדה, ארגנטינה, אוסטרליה

Translation:
