Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Pogost Zagorodskii, Poland (Pohost Zahorodzki, Belarus), and surrounding communities who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:

The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of a large black granite slab. Next to it, there is a small stone structure with a golden metal plaque and, on its side a small metal door. The slab stands on a stone base. One of the inscriptions indicates that the monument contains the remains of the Jews who perished in the Holocaust and were reburied in 1995.

                                                                        והסביבה
                                                                        ע"י פינסק

Translation:

In memory of Pogost Zagorodskii/Pohost Zahorodzki and the surrounding area/by Pinsk.

On the small stone structure, in Hebrew:

                                                                        פה טמונים עצמותיהם של הנספים בשואה
                                                                        ביערות פוהוסט זגורדסקי בשנת 1942
                                                                        בוברוב יענטל ושלושת ילדיה
                                                                        גולדמן ישראל
                                                                        גרבוז שמואל
                                                                        והובאו לקבורה בשנת 1995
                                                                        ע"י יוז'וק יצחק

Translation:

Here lie the remains of those who perished in the Holocaust/in the forests of Pogost Zagorodskii in 1942/
Bubrov Yentl and her three children/Goldman Yisrael/Garbuz Shmuel/They were brought for burial in 1995/by Yozhok Yitzhak.
