Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Ludwipol, Poland (today Sosnove, Ukraine) and Siedliszcze Wielkie, Poland (today Velyki Selyshcha, Ukraine), who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:

The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of two stone slabs, connected to each other, set on a stone base. On one of them, there is an image of a menorah. On the foot of the slab, there is a small metal box with a sign above it. One of the inscriptions indicates that the monument contains the ashes of the Jews, who perished in the Holocaust. It also contain a small plaque with an engraved image of a tomb with a Star of David. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community's memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size.

Inscription:

On the slab with the menorah, in Hebrew: 

לזכר 

קדושי קהילת

לודביפול

סלישטש והסביבה

פלך-ווהלין

שנספו בשואה

בשנת תש"ב 1942

הי"ד

Translation: In memory of / the martyrs of the / Ludwipol,  Selyshcha, and surrounding communities / in the Volhynia district / who perished in the Holocaust / in the year 5702 (1942) / May God avenge their blood.

On the other slab, in Hebrew: 

"מי-יתן ראשי מים

ועיני מקור דמעה ואבכה

יומם ולילה את חללי בת-עמי"

(ירמיה ח', כ"ג)

Translation: "Oh that my head were waters, / and my eyes a fountain of tears, / that I might weep day and night / for the slain of the daughter of my people." (Jeremiah 8:23) / And these are the names:
