Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Aleksandrów Łódzki, Poland, who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Western Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. 

The monument is made up of two tall rectangular stone columns standing side by side. Across the top, there is a flat stone slab which connects them. Between the columns, there is a dark stele which set on a stone base. Infront of the monument lies a small stone slab. The whole structure is surrounded by a black metal fence with square patterns. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community's memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. Inscriptions indicate that the monument contains the ashes the community's victims, who perished in the Holocaust.

On the top flat stone slab, in Hebrew: 

 

אלכסנדר ע"י לודז'

Translation:  Alexander near Łódź [Aleksandrów Łódzki].

On the central dark stele, in Hebrew:

זכרון לקהילה

המפוארת

שהושמדה

בשואה הנאצית

הי"ד

 מי יתן מציון

ישועת ישראל

יגל יעקב

ישמח ישראל

 

Translation:In memory of the / glorious community / that was destroyed / in the Nazi Holocaust / May God avenge their blood (HY"D)/May salvation for Israel / come from Zion/ Jacob will rejoice / Israel will be glad [Psalms 14:7].

Translation: Here lie / the ashes of our holy ones / Memorial Day 15th of Tevet.
