The Jews of Kraków murdered during the Holocaust

Description:

A marble plaque with golden letters is affixed to the northern section of the eastern wall of the Tempel Synagogue. It contains two different inscriptions in Hebrew and Polish.

Inscription:

Hebrew:

לזכרון נצח
תחרת מצבת נשמות קדושי עם ישראל
שנהרגו על קידוש השם בידי הרוצחים הגרמנים ועוזריהם
בשנות עברה וזעם תש' – תש"ה
ד' ינקום דמם!

Translation: For eternal memory, this plaque engraved for the souls of the martyrs of the Jewish people who were murdered for the sanctification of God’s name at the hands of the German murderers and their helpers in the years of “wrath and indignation” [Ps. 78:49], (5)700 – (5)705. May God avenge their blood!

Polish:

Dla uczczenia pamięci
pomordowanych Żydów, którzy zginęli śmiercią męczeńską
z rąk zbirów hitlerowskich w latach 1939-1945.

Plytę tę wmurowano
w 1954 r. תשי"ד

Translation: To commemorate the memory of the murdered Jews who died a martyr’s death at the hands of Nazi thugs in 1939-1945. This plaque was installed in 1954, (5)714. Jewish religious congregation in Kraków.
