sub-set tree:
After Hitler came to power in 1933, the Frank family left Frankfurt for the Netherlands. in Amsterdam, they resided in Merwedeplein, a new neighborhood built between 1920 and 1933. From this apartment, the family went into hiding. After the war, various people lived at Merwedeplein 37-II, the flat where Anne had lived. In 2004, the Ymere Housing Corporation bought the house and restored it to its original 1930s style, in close collaboration with the Anne Frank House. Since 2005, the property has been let to the Dutch Foundation for Literature and it serves as accommodation for foreign writers who cannot work freely in their own country. In 2017, the Anne Frank House took over the house from Ymere but its use remains unchanged. [Anne Frank’s family home]
