The Jews of Varakļāni, Latvia, who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Western Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. T

he monument is a stone slab with a dedicatory inscription in Hebrew set on a stepped base. A small metal box connected to the base and inscribed in Hebrew might contain the scrolls with the names of the martyrs or their ashes.

ביום י"א מנחם אב

שנת תש"א

ארץ אל תכסי דמם

 

Translation: An eternal memory / to our dear ones / holy martyrs of the community / of Varakļāni / and its surroundings / Latvia / who perished in the Holocaust / on the 11th of Menachem Av / year 5701 / may God avenge their blood / Earth, do not cover their blood.
