Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Skierniewice, Poland, who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:

The monument is located in the Western Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives.

The memorial is a large dark boulder inscribed with the name of the community in golden letters and set on a white stone pedestal. The monument is surrounded by 6 pillars, attached with chains. 

Inscription:

On the boulder, in Hebrew: 

קדושי

סקרנביץ

 

Translation: Martyrs/of Skierniewice. 

On the pedestal, in Hebrew: 

שנספו בשואה תרצ"ט - תש"ה

הי"ד

עליה לבניכם ספרו

ובניכם לבניהם

ובניהם לדור אחר 

(יואל)

פה טמון אפר קדושינו

Translation: Who perished in the Holocaust  5699-5705 [1939-1945] / May God avenge their blood / Tell your children about it / and let your children tell their children / and their children to another generation/ (Joel) [1:3] / Here lie the ashes of our holy ones.
