Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Lipcani Targ, Bessarabia, Romania (today Moldova), perished in the Holocaust.

Description:

The monument is located in the Western Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives.

The monument is a dark slab shaped like the Hebrew letter "Lamed" set on the base. The base initially had metal plaques with the names of the Jews of Lipcani, who perished in the Holocaust [see the photograph in the Archive of Ghetto Fighters].

The monument was renovated at a later stage, probably in 1988. Four additional walls were added to the base. The walls and the front of the base bear dedicatory inscriptions and the names of the Jews of Lipcani, who perished in the Holocaust.
