Six Million Jewish Victims of the Holocaust

Description

This memorial is located to the left of the main synagogue entrance, separated by a curb from an asphalt paved driveway. The area of the monument is covered with loose water-eroded cobbles, with shrubs planted behind. A flagpole is set very close to the monument.

The Memorial proper is in three parts. In the center is a stele-type monument that consists of a rectangular concrete base on which is set a white marble base, most of which is roughly cut but the top part of which is cut as a smooth and polished base. From this rises a vertical white stone slab with a rough finish, in the center of which is cut a Magen David, the central hexagon of which is colored gold and is inscribed with the word “Jude,” indicating that it is to be taken as the yellow start which many Jews in occupied Europe were forced to wear on their clothing.

An incised or cut line bisects the entire height of the vertical marble block from the base to the bottom of the Magen David. From the top of the Magen David, the line extends upward and is incorporated into the design of a menorah. At the top of the block, the stone is cut away in concentric half circles, from which metal candle holders extend upward to create a menorah.

The central monument is flanked by two low, Cor-Ten steel, free-standing walls. The tops of these walls curve upward towards the main portion of the memorial. Inscriptions are cut into the steel and can be read as voids in the rust color solid.

Next to the monument facing the paved area in front of the synagogue entrance is a low sign set on a stone base that lists all of the donors to the project
