Jewish printed books Chochmat ha-Yad by Moshe ben Eliyahu Gallena, Frankfurt an der Oder, 1776
This text was prepared by William Gross:
This is a book about the "Wisdom of the Hand" , concerning plamistry or the reading of the palm of the hand to determine the future. There are a fair number of editions of such texts in the Gross Family Collection. They are usually accompanied by a schematic illustration of the front of the hand, as here on the title page. The text is in Yiddish. Most such books were printed in East Europe, but this small volume was published in Germany.
This is the earlliest printed edition of this composition in the Gross Family Collection. It is not found in Winograd and may be among the very earliest printings of this text which was reprinted numerous times during the 19th and 20th centuries. Several editions are found in the Gross Family Collection.
