The following description was prepared by William Gross:     

Embroidered textiles for synagogue use existed in all communities of Jews in the word. Their variety is extraordinary. The one on a silk ground is colored by form of pencil. The banner is a part of the prayers for Rosh Chodesh. It is not clear how it was used, Perhaps it was placed on the readers desk during Rosh Chodes each month.
