Shakh (Orthodox) Synagogue in Holešov - Main prayer hall

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Khaimovich, Boris, 2014

The decoration of the prayer hall (10.7 m x 7.8 m) remains in fragments. The vaults are decorated in a system of painted stucco quatrefoil frames. All the window openings are decorated with floral ornaments and inscriptions. The eastern wall has a baroque-style Torah Ark and windows with decorative painting under them. They are most elaborate decor of the prayer hall.

The stucco quatrefoil frame in the center of the vault is decorated with stars as well as the moon and sun. There are stucco shells and flowers in the framework of the north and south sides of the vault. A vase with flowers is depicted in the framework on the west side of the vault. The dedicatory inscription of the establishment and reconstruction of the synagogue are written in the frame above the Torah Ark.
