Description |
The brass hanging back-walled Hannukah lamp consists of an arched row of eight oil containers with a space between them and the and a back wall. A two- handled cup is set on a base, attached to the margin of the right container. A row of eight round spouted oil containers is fastened to the lower side of the back wall. The arched openwork back wall consists of a symmetrical composition depicting at the center a stylised palm tree, with curly branches and dates bunch. From the middle part of the tree trunk hang two cornucopia, one on each side, with fruits (pomegranate, apple, grapes) in each one of them. On each side of the palm tree, a deer is crouching, turning outwards, his upper body attached to the wall's contour. Below the decorated arch is written in Hebrew block letters: הנרות הללו קודש הם These lights are sacred |
