Eva Barna, Illustrations for the Book of Jonah (1956)

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Harris, David,
The picture represents Yona. He walks filling the whole length, body slanted diagonally. His head is slightly down and his gaze is lowered. His right arm is raised to the right, over his forehead, and his left armis lowered with the hand wide open. The lower part of his half-naked body is covered. On his far left side a group of people is depicted. They are dressed in long robes. Both their bodies and clothes are striped in white. The arm of the person on Yona's right is raised with the hand open. Contours, details, facial features are given with the help of dark and thick lining. Dark background with a range of intensity in the black tones and shading.
