In 1968, Zussia Efron (1911-2002), the director of the Mishkan Museum of Art in Ein Harod, embarked on expedition to Romania in search of Jewish Heritage. He continued traveling to the country over the following years, capturing hundreds of photographs of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries, as well as penning his experiences and thoughts on Romanian Jewish life under the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu.

The negatives and diaries of Zussia Efron are preserved in the Center for Jewish Art’s archives. This book provides readers with a rare opportunity to get acquainted with his distinctive and significant chronicle of Romanian Jewish life and unique historical images.
