Inscribed:
מגביהין הקערה/ כאשר לפנים מצוייר'
“One lifts the plate as it is represented here.”
In the middle inner margin: The bust of a man filling a cup from a jug next to the written instruction to do so.
In the lower margin: A seated man turning with an explanatory gesture towards a young boy standing in front of him.
On their right a table with matzah and green maror leaves on it.
Inscribed near the boy:
הלילה הזה הבן לאביו שואל/ למה אוכלין מצה ומרור בישראל
“This night the son asks his father: ‘why are matzah and maror eaten in Israel?’.”
Near the man:
אביו משיב לו בחכמה/ על גאולת מצרימה
“His father answers him with wisdom: ‘(in memory) of the redemption from Egypt’.”
