Inscribed at the top:

לאור הנר ולא לאור האבוקה/ צריכי' לעשות בדיקה

“Bt the light of a candle, and not a torch (TB, Pesahim 7b), one has to make the search.”

At the bottom:

במרתף בודק העליונות/ והשורות התחתונות

“In the cellar one searches the upper as well as the lower shelves (TB, Pesahim 8b).”

“In the yard there is no need (to search), because the ravens are found there at length.” (TB, Pesahim 8b).
