Synagogue 1-This synagogue is a broadhouse structure, the facade is on the south. One entrance is located nearly the center of the south wall and a secondery entrance is located on the noreastern corner. There are no traces of columns. Two benches runninig along the walls except on the southern facade wall. A plaster floor have been found. Two platforms (bemas) are attached to the interior of the southern wall. Synagogue 2 has two phases 2a-2b. 2a: The Synagogue has a basilica brodhouse plan oriented north south. A portico with four columns located before the entrance of the synagogoue in the center of the facade wall. the hall is divided by six columns. Architectural fragments of this synagogue like the lintel, and an Adicula found in later debris. 2b: The synagoue is substantially the same in the plan of synagogue 2a. A second bema added and might have been used as a reader's platform. Syngogue 3: The synagogue is in a basilica plan. oriented north-south. The entrances were located in the center of the north and the south walls. The portico was retained. The hall divided by eight columns. The bemas were silled under a plaster floor.

History/Provenance
Nabartein located in the Upper Galilee, just north of Safad. The synagogue was first excavated by Kohl and Watzinger (1905), and later on by E.M.Meyers (1980-1981), on behalf of the American Schools of Oriental Research. The excavator dated the synagogues according numismatic and ceramic evidanc. Synagogue 1 is dated according sealed pottery to 135-250 CE. Synagogue 2a is dated to 250-306 CE, fell in an earthquake. Synagogue 2b is dated to 306-363 CE, destroyed in the Gallus revolt or in an earthquake of 363. The site was abandoned. Synagogue 3 is dated to 564-700 CE according a coin sealed below floor and the inscription on the lintel bears the date of 564 CE.
