Fol. 5: A decorated initial word by Scribe A appears in the centre of the text space of the morning service for

the first day of New Year. The initial word for the ofan כבודו (איהל) (kevodo, his glory; Davidson 1924-33, כ 61) is written in dark brown ink in display letters (stem height:28 mm; 4 lines), decorated with small circles on the stems of the letters. Surrounding the initial word are pen-drawn animals and hybrids. To the left of the word is a large owl with a snake and a hybrid bird biting its head, and a winged dragon underlining the initial word biting its left claw.

The initial letter gimel on the third line below the initial word is emphasised by a rosette in spared-ground technique
