The initial word סדר (order) is written in display letters shaped as folded ribbons with grotesque masks, entwined fish and acorns on the stems. The letters are written on a blue panel richly decorated with floral scrolls and two vases.
Below the panel is an astronomical calendar of omens predicting events and disasters according to the weather at the month’s new moon (Rosh Hodesh). For example,אם יהיה בר"ח [בראש חודש] אייר מטר אחד מגיבור[י] המלך יהרג ואם בו שמש שנה טובה יהיה (If it rains in the new moon of Iyar - one of the king's heroes will be killed, and if the sun shines - it will be a good year). The months are listed in red on the right, begining with Nisan, the first month of the Jewish liturgical year, which is illustrated on the top left with its zodiac sign, the Lamb, smelling a flower (cf. MS.I:40). The calendar is decorated at top left with a double zigzag and gold leaf roundels, and in the lower margin with a floral scroll.
