turned towards the spectator. On the stack there are two other peasants. They lie in the same pose: on one side with the hand layed under the head. To the left there is a woman in a red kerchief standing on the stack.
To the left of the stack two blue cows are eating the hay and to the left of them there is a small figure of a shepherd.

The work was painted after the artist's trip to the jewish agricultural commune "Voyo Novo" (New Way) in Crimea in 1930-1931. On the back side of the work there is a composition "View of Minsk" (1934, gouache).
