The architectural initial word panel for the book of Numbers consists of a multifoil arch and a trefoil gable surmounted by turrets. In the spandrels is the golden initial word decorated below with two symmetrical animals, a griffon on the left and a lion on the right. The gable is filled with two picocks flanking a fountain. On top of the gable is a bird and in the lower corners of the arch are two dragon-heads with flames extending from their mouths. The small initial word for the Targum is placed on the left above the the triangular shape of the text column.
