Jewish Funerary Art Old Jewish cemetery in Zhvanets, Ukraine
According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. In the IAJGS database it was mentioned, that according to locals, the old cemetery was operational until 1900. It can be assumed that the cemetery already existed in that period. It was not marked on old maps as the Jewish cemetery. The cemetery site is used for cattle grazing now.
There are 12 gravestones. The dates on the gravestones are unreadable. There are presumably around 20 more gravestones that are laying down on the site.
To reach the cemetery, proceed for about 650 metres in the eastern direction from the gas station on the western end of Zhvanets. Turn right, and proceed for about 300 metres. The cemetery is located in the fields at the end of the road.
