Sacred and Ritual Mezuzah cover, Morocco, 20th century
© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Unknown,
The shield-shaped Mezuzah cover consists of a silver plaque attached to red cotton. The open-worked plaque is divided in two parts.
The center of the main part depicts a Star of David enclosing an open flower. The star is surrounded by two branches composing a
circle from which intertwin foliate scrolls bearing leaves and flowers.
A cutout inscription within a rectangular frame surmounts the main part. The inscription is in square-filled letters and reads in two
lines as follows:
שדי##רוזאלי פינטו
Translation: Shadai / Rozali Pinto
A band with linear patterns frames the Mezuzah cover. A ring for hanging the cover is inserted through a loop on its top.
