Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah scroll staves, Morocco
The wooden Torah Scroll Staves are composed of upper shields and handles. The cylindrical upper shield is encircled with silver inlaid decoration. The decoration is composed of a lower frieze of four horizontal rectangles and an upper frieze divided in four horizontal cartouches bearing a circle in their middle. It terminates in an undulating edge.
The shield is surmounted by a cylindrical tapering handle, that begins with two convex bands, divided from one another and from the shield by a concave band, and ends with a smooth elongated unit. The shaft has perforations to facilitate the attachment of parchment.
