Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah case, Egypt, 19??
The wooden Torah case consists of a body. The cylindrical plain body is composed of two hemispherical parts. Two pairs of round annulets encircle the upper and the lower borders.
The body is closed by a houked clousure in its upper part.
Rectangular silver plaques surmounted by a crown are attached to both sides of the case's opening. It bears a dedicatory inscription. The inscription is to be read from right to the left missing plaque, in square filled letters and reads:
!תיק זה ]וםפר[## תורה שבו קדש ]לה' הקדיש[## אבו שערה יב!צ)יראה בנחמת ציון( ]...[##הנכבד ירא את ]אלהים רודף[##צדקה וחסד ]...[## זצ!ל) צדיק לברכה( נלב!ע )נפטר לבית עולמו( ביום ]...[## לחדש ניסן ]...[##תמ!ך)תהי מנוחתו כבוד(!
!This Torah case [and the] Torah scroll in it is dedicated [to the Lord by] Abu Shaara may he will see the comfort of Zion [...] The honored who feareth the [Lord] Followeth righteousness and mercy [...] The rightous of blessed memory who passed away at the day of [...] In the month of Nissan [...] May his rest be honoured
A motif which consists of two horizontal ogee sections joined by a rounded pattern, is set under the inscription.
