Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah shield, Second half of the 18th century - 19th century
The silver Torah shield consists of an arched slope plate. In its central part, there is a convex medallion which bears a dedicatory inscription topped by a foliate motif. The square filled letters read:
זה הטס / של כסף / נדב הנגיד / נחום במר' [בן מורינו רבי] / יעקב יצ"ו [ישמרהו צורו ויחיהו]
"This silver Torah shield was donated by the affluent, Nahum, son of our teacher R. Jacob, may his Rock protect and sustain him."
The plaque is held on the left by a rampant lion with a revealing tongue and on the right by a rampant deer. Both face right. A coronet surmounts the medallion and a basket of flowers is located below.
The shield is framed by a row of dots and a twined stripe.
