Sacred and Ritual Objects Kiddush cup (Poland, Second half of the 19th century)
The cup is cylindrical and tapers at the bottom. It is decorated with a wide band containing four oval medallions which are surrounded by an undulating foliate branche.
Each medallion contains one of the following holy places: the Western Wall (8706), the Tomb of Samuel the Prophet (8707) and Rachel's Tomb (8708), the Cave of Makhpelah (8709), (read clockwise).
There are Thin bands bearing inscriptions in square filled letters above and below the central wide band. The title of each place is inscribed under each medallion.
The top inscription reads from right to the left as follows: איינדענק מזקנתם יוטע בשביל נכדה שרה אסתר תחי. "Present from grandmother Yute for her granddaughter Sarah Esther may she live (a long life)."
