Jews of Zolochiv murdered and buried arounf the Zolochiv Castle.

Description

The monument is located on the wall of one of the buildings within the grounds of Zolochiv Castle. It is a white stone plaque with inscriptions in Ukrainian, Hebrew, and English. The plaque features a relief image of an arch at the top, with the space within the arch filled with relief images of candles. Above the arch, on both sides, are two circles with Hebrew words. Relief images of grapes are carved on both sides of the inscriptions, which are located below the arch. The plaque is mounted near another plaque, also erected by the same group, dedicated to the victims of the Soviet regime.

Translation: To the eternal memory

Ukrainian:

Памʼяті знищених нацистами святих
мучеників-євреїв, похованих у братній
могилі під стіною замку.
Під час 2-ої світової війни у Золочеві
і довкіллі загинуло понад 14000 євреїв

Translation: To the memory of the Holy Martyrs, Jews, exterminated by the Nazis and buried in a mass grave under the Castle wall. Durinf the Seconf world war, more than 14,000 Jews perished in Zolochiv and the environment.

על זה היה דוה לבנו שכבו לארץ חוצות נער וזקן
לזכר 14000 קדושי זולאטשוב היהודים הי”ד
שנרצחו באכזריות נוראה על ידי הנאצים
 ימ”ש במלחמת העולם השנייה.
מקצתם נקברו בקבר אחים כאן במקום זה.

TranslationFor this our hearts are faint, young and old lay fallen in the streets, in memory of the 14,000 Zolochov martyrs, Jews, may God avenge their blood who were extremely brutally killed by the Nazis, may their names be obliterated, in the Second world war. Some of them were buried in a mass grave here, at this place. May their souls be bound in the bundle of life.

To the memory of the Holy Martyrs, Jews murdered by
Nazi and buried in the mass grave at the Zamok wall

During the world war two in Zolochiv and its
vicinity above 14000 Jews was ruthlessly killed

Their families from around the world
have established this plaque for their loved ones
who are buried here and elsewhere in mass graves.

On July 3, 1941, approximately 500 Jews were murdered during a pogrom around the Zolochiv Castle [Tsal Kaplun Foundation].

In 2006, the descendants of the Jews of Zolochiv from the USA and Israel erected two plaques in the courtyard of the castle. One plaque was dedicated to the victims of the Soviet regime, while the other was dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust [Yad Vashem, Forum Daily].
